We are now recruiting for all groups within the music ministry. Whether you are an experienced musician or a secret ‘in the shower’ singer, there is an opportunity for you. We really want to see lots of new faces at rehearsals so come and give us a try! Rehearsals begin again in late August.
For more information please call the music ministry office at (910) 323 2410 ext. 117
PARISH CHOIR
Rehearsals - Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8.45pm in the music suite.
Sings each Sunday at the 9.30 liturgy and on some Holy Days.
If you enjoy singing, you should be in this choir. We are a fun and friendly group of men, women and youth (grades 9 and up) of all levels of ability. No experience is necessary and if you don’t read music we can help you. Our choir has a very good reputation and we sing a wide range of repertoire in varied styles and languages. You can join the Parish Choir at any time during the year so don’t wait to give us a call. We need singers in all voice parts.
BEREAVEMENT / WEDDING CHOIR
Rehearsals – None!
Sings at funerals and weddings.
The purpose of this group is to support the assembly response at weddings and funerals where there are often many visitors who are unfamiliar with our church’s music. We don’t sing fancy anthems, just hymns and Mass parts. Members are notified as soon as we are aware of an upcoming event and those that are available on that date just show up 15 minutes prior to the service. No experience is required but familiarity with the parish repertoire is a bonus.
CHORISTERS
Rehearsals – Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the music suite.
Sings once or twice a month at different Sunday liturgies and Holy Days.
The Saint Patrick Choristers is a choir for young people in the 3rd through 8th grade from within the entire parish. There is no audition and all are welcome. While we strive for excellence in our performance standards, emphasis is placed on the idea that we are serving the parish by assisting in leading the assembly’s sung prayer. Regular attendance is strongly encouraged but we understand that families may not be available for every event. The choir's reputation continues to grow and in April 2008 the choir did their first 4th Friday concert in downtown Fayetteville which was a huge success. This year we hope to take the choir to perform at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Wilmington.
JUNIOR CHORISTERS
Rehearsals – Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the conference suite.
Sings 4 or 5 times a year at Sunday liturgy.
Formed in November 2006, this informal choir is for any interested child in grades K-2. The group learns basic vocal skills and some music reading skills through singing, movement and musical games. The emphasis is on participation rather than performance but the children will have the opportunity to sing at liturgy 2 or 3 times each year.
PREPARATORY HANDBELLS
Rehearsals – Thursdays from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm or to suit the needs of those interested
Participates in liturgy once a reasonable level of skill has been achieved.
No experience necessary. You will learn basic music reading skills (if needed) and handbell technique in this group which is open to youth (grade 6 up) and adults. Regular attendance is important for this group to develop but all are welcome to try it out first. We’d love to see enough new faces to start an intermediate group too! This is a great opportunity for those who love music but are not comfortable with the sound of their own voice!
ADVANCED HANDBELLS
Rehearsals – Thursdays from 7pm to 8.30pm
Plays at liturgy about once a month and for some Holy Days.
This group is for handbell players with experience or accomplished musicians who are quick learners. Players normally begin in the preparatory group and join the advanced choir at the invitation of the director. In addition to playing at liturgies, we also attend a festival in the spring and occasionally play for Arts Council events in downtown Fayetteville. For those in the know, we usually play music of a level 3 standard, with an occasional level 4. If you are new to our parish but have some experience and would like to be considered for this group, please contact the music ministry.
ORGAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM
Free organ lessons are available to adults or youth who are interested in learning this new skill. Applicants will hopefully have some keyboard skills and should be willing to use their talents during liturgy once they have become proficient players. Practice time on the organ is scheduled for each student. To apply, please contact Diana Kirkpatrick in the music ministry office 323 2410 ext 117.
SPANISH CHOIR/CORO HISPANO
El coro hispano tene ensayos los miércoles por la noche desde las 7pm – 9pm. Todo aquel que esta interesado en pertenecer a este grupo vivaz debe comunicarse con Lillian Sanchez al numero 864 8116.
CANTORS
Due to the level of skill needed for leading sung prayer effectively, cantors are chosen by the music ministry staff from the singers in our parish choirs. Membership in one of the choirs is necessary to maintain good communications with the music ministry leadership. Cantors are volunteers and not paid professionals.
The Catholic Church has traditionally been a great patron of the arts with a very high regard for the power of music to raise and comfort weary spirits. In that tradition the music ministry supports the following non-liturgical ministries.
CANTATE
Rehearsals – Alternate Sunday evenings from 6pm to 9pm
This ecumenical female chamber choir is presently seeking all voices. Admission is by audition. Applicants should have good reading skills and a tone that blends well with others. Cantate has an excellent reputation in the area and in addition to singing at occasional liturgies both here and at members’ churches, the choir has performed regularly at the Piccolo Spoleto festival in Charleston, South Carolina. If you have friends from within or outside of St. Patrick’s who may be interested, please ask them to contact Stephan Barnicle at (910) 323 2410 ext 113.

MUSIC FOR CHARITY SERIES
The music series is always on the lookout for new board members, especially anyone with fundraising or grant-writing experience as well as volunteers to help with large mailings, put up posters, usher at concerts etc. Board meetings happen only as the need arises, usually about 5 or 6 times a year, as most of the administrative work is done by the music ministry staff. If you would like to help with this effort please contact the music ministry office.
